Turn 1A
I get first turn. Opponent skews his deployment to my left. I try to remain spread out, but see that I could probably have gone even wider.

Turn 1B
Opponent keeps out of charge range of Freebooters.

Turn 2A
The Throne on my left is within charge range of my ambushers, but there is no way they can remove it so I don’t see any point going for that line of play. Instead I shuffle around and make sure that everything is well contested and my scenario elements scored. My opponent doesn’t have any units, so there is no reason to contest the right zone.
There is a decent argument to be made about bringing in the ambushers to the right and just position for scoring in my opponent’s turn. There is a Sheperd available to run in, but then he would have needed to bring something else over to score his flag.

Turn 2B
Saeryn feats and stuff runs up to jam. Blight Bringer (the spell) is up on Proteus. Caniveans put up Spiny Growth, so now everything is pretty high armour. Luckily my opponent runs up a sorceress to jam my flag in an aggressive position.
Score 0-1

Turn 3A
Ambushers come in on the right and claim the zone. Rahera charges the Sorceress and kills it to trigger Manifest Destiny with Blood Boon. She sprints back behind the rock. Stuff charges in and finish off the Throne in the left zone, but I am unable to kill Proteus due to the high arm and Blight Bringer making it awkward to reach with jacks. I shoot the Shepherd off the flag.
Score 3-1

Turn 3B
Two Freebooters and a bunch of pirates go down. A Forsaken runs over to score my opponent’s flag, but he is unable to contest the right hand zone.
Score 4-2

Turn 4A
Infantry charge into various targets. Then Rahera charges the Carnivean. After rolling low on my my charge attack and one or two bought attacks I realise that I will not be able to finish it off to trigger MD before feat, so I go ahead and trigger feat in order to soften up the Carnivean a bit. In the end I do manage to kill the Carnivean and trigger MD, but I lose a lot of efficiency in the process. In the end I leave Proteus alive on a couple of boxes. Had Proteus died I would have won this turn.
In hindsight I think it would have been better if I just hard cast MD and allocate some focus to my jacks. This would have allowed me to get a much more efficient turn.
Press gangers contest the enemy flag while still keeping inside the zone.
Score 6-2

Turn 4B
Proteus and Throne kill my Mariner and a whole bunch of pirates. Forsaken contests my zone. Saeryn runs over to score the flag.
Score 6-3

Turn 5A
I need to score two points and contest his flag for the win. This is quite doable, but I am running a bit low on time. Cannon shoots out the Forsaken on the right and the Freebooter runs up to contest. At this point I actually have the game, because Doc can just run over to score his flag, but I don’t realise at the time.
Instead I start charging in on the right and manage to kill Proteus before timing out mid-way through my activations. There is still a Forsaken contesting my zone. I score the board, but unfortunately come up one point short.
Score 7-3
Technically a loss for the Mercenaries
:: Evaluation ::
It was fun to play some off-meta lists and the matchup ended up to be quite even. It is difficult for me to chew threw all this armour and his Thrones can do a lot of damage against my pirates. On the other hand my opponent will struggle a lot to keep up on scenario. On Anarchy and with me going first I believe I have a slight advantage. I am pretty sure I would have ended up winning the game if I had played a bit quicker.
It was interesting to see how awkward the Rahera feat turn can be and that it is not necessarily always worth it to go for the Blood Boon play.
