I get first turn and run to outside of 16” of all the Doom reavers. I see no point in risking anything first turn on this scenario.
I have concentrated most of my force on the right side (including DSM which will be my scoring unit), but looking back at the terrain layout I wonder if not the left side would have been a better choice since it is more constricted on my opponent’s side of the table.

Turn 1B
My opponent runs and walks up conservatively with Blizzard up on 6 of the Doom Reavers.

Turn 2A
I misplay this turn quite badly. My assumption is that I can kill most of his Doom Reavers if I can get a solid shooting turn this turn, then feat and do it again next turn. In reality I end up killing none of the Doom Reavers, knocking down 4 of them. Some is of course due to bad dice, but I could have been a lot more aggressive with the central Thamarite archon and shot at the reavers in the back instead of the ones who have concealment (needing 6’s instead of 8’s to hit). I also don’t know why I didn’t try to get some shots off with the Vigilants. I was probably respecting the 16” from the Void archons, but as long as I spread out or keep close to Fiona it shouldn’t have been an issue.

Turn 2B
My opponent plays his turn correctly and holds the feat while pushing the Devastators into my face. Doom reavers flood the zones in all the awkward spots for me to get to.

Turn 3A
I have the old Devastator rules stuck in my head, thinking that they will drop to ARM 19 if I turn them around. Luckily my opponent clarifies this while still on Fiona’s activation, so I change my plan and Curse the Devastator that I already Befuddled out of the zone. At this point I should have cursed the objective instead and focused my resources on the middle zone and clearing out as many doom reavers as possible. I fail to kill any of the Devastators the objective still lives with 7 boxes remaining, leaving me with no points and my opponent’s army mostly intact.
Score 0-0
My (many) mistakes this turn:
- Not allocating focus to the Toro
- Abandoning the zone with Mar.
- Blocking Gallant’s charge lane with the Charger and Morland
- Facing the red Thamarite archon with Doom reavers in my back arc
- Two of the Vigilants are unable to get charges off because they are hidden behind the forest with almost no line of sight (strictly speaking a mistake last turn)
- Not charging in with Throne.

Turn 3B
Devastators open up and do crazy damage with their conveniently auto-hitting blast attacks. Vlad feats (rolling a 6) and completely rips my army apart.

Turn 4A
At this point there is not much more for me to do than go for a long shot assassination. Luckily Vlad is sitting out in the open camping only two. Alexia has no souls. I am not sure if we measured 3” to Vlad for Arcane Vortex, but I am not planning on giving her any souls anyway (except Vlad’s of course…)
My dice karma is swinging back in full and I get all the rolls I need: First Fiona hits her unboosted 8 for Chasten and then lands a second fully boosted Chasten for decent damage. Then Ragman bone shakes a Thrall warrior who walks over to Vlad and actually hits needing a 9. This means that Alexia needs to roll a boosted 11 on damage to finish the job.

It’s a bit difficult to reflect the Might of Kings ability 100% correctly in oddsmachine, but all in all it looks like a solid 2.29% run, assuming that Ragman hits and kills the Thrall with Bone Shaker. The last attack is a shot from the remaining Vigilant who missed.
Victory for the Mercenaries!
