172 Ossrum1 Irreg vs Axis1 DI

I get paired into CoC and a pairing of Axis and Orion. The Axis list has double TEP and Orion shoots like … well, he shoots like Orion I guess, so it is pretty obvious that I need to drop Ossrum even though I am not happy about having to play into the Axis feat. The good news for me is that I have played this very matchup recently so at least I am well prepared.

I run the Basher all the way over to the right side so I don’t risk losing that zone. In the center I figure I will try a bit of a risky strategy since the TEPs are so far to the right. I can contest the flag with a Driller quite safely, but I can also put up Eiryss on the flag with Bullet dodger and within 3” of Gudrun. This puts her at DEF 20 against shooting, and in practice forcing my opponent to commit something to contest. The better play here is probably just to contest with the Driller, but when I get an idea like that into my head I have a tendency to just run with it anyway.
I believe Anastasia ambushed in on the left to contest the zone, but this is out of frame for the photo.
Turn 2B
My fancy special tactics really pays off and Eiryss dodges around tanking a whole bunch of attacks. To be honest I had completely forgotten about Blessed on the Stalker, so he needed only a boosted 7 in the back but I get lucky and dodge away on the miss. After that my opponent continues to roll poorly for damage with the TEP vs. my Driller. Gudrun is pushed out of the zone, but both Eiryss and the Driller remains in contesting range.
My opponent does destroy my objective. There is a Stalker outside of frame on the left, scoring that zone.

I fuel up my jacks, feat and just waltz in with the intent of killing as many Negators as possible. I have to say I do a surprising amount of damage and manage to kill all but one.

Turn 3B
Axis feats. Gaspy comes in and together with the TEP he clears one of the Drillers and together finishes the one that was damaged the previous turn. I am quite lucky that Gudrun remains within contesting range of the central flag.

Turn 4A
I kill Gaspy and take the time to clear out most of the servitors just to make it more difficult for my opponent to contest in the late game. Unfortunately I am not able to get LoS to Widget behind the forest. Unfortunately there is one tiny servitor still contesting the flag so I only score one point.

Corollary runs in to contest my zone and my opponent is still clearing the left zone.

I kill the Corollary and start working on his objective. I finally manage to clear the central flag.

Driller goes down and Widget flies in to contest the right.

Turn 6A
I destroy the objective and clear my zone.
Score 6-5
At this point my opponent is unable to contest the right hand zone and I win 9-7 on turn 7 just by body blocking the TEP.

:: Evaluation ::
Well, I really needed this win after the horrible results yesterday. I played quite all right, but I do have to admit that my opponent’s dice were pretty bad so it could have gone quite a lot worse. Even though the Bullet Dodger Eiryss play worked out well for me I don’t think it was a very smart move. I should also have contested the central flag better on my feat turn. I was lucky not to give up any points there.
